Changes

Life does like to throw curve balls at us, doesn't it? The last two years have been rough ones for my family. We lost my Mother-in Law, my Mother, my Brother-in-Law and then my Father. It seems as if we just get on the road back to normal, then another loss occurred. Which has lead me to think a lot about priorities and what do I really want to do with my life.
I still love to teach and won't be fully retiring anytime soon. I am slowing down though and limiting the number of classes and seminars I do each year. Why do I tell you this? Because in the past I have taught a lot and in many different places. This resulted in students thinking that they could take one of my classes any time. Not anymore. If you see a class you like, take it. It may never be offered again.
Another big change is with the Cottage Garden Threads. They have discontinued their entire line of pearl cottons. What I have listed on my wed site is all there is. Once it is gone, I won't be able to get anymore. I'm searching for a new variegated pearl cotton to use in my designs. I'm fairly picky about my threads so it is taking a while. Hopefully I will find one to love soon!

Oh, Dear

Oh, dear. It's been THAT long since I have posted anything? Yikes. I've never been one to blog a lot, but this is a big gap.

Part of the reason for that gap is that this had been a very rough year for my family. My husband and I lost both of our mothers in 2024. My Mother-In-Law, Sally Bay, passed on February 27th, and my mother, Barb Wandrei, passed on September 15th. It's been difficult and many things have gone by the wayside. I am trying to get back into the swing of things.

On that note, my designing has taken a new path this last year. I am still doing many very traditional Hardanger and Ukrainian White work designs. I always will. I deeply love the traditional patters and the look of white-on-white stitching. But a new fusion of sorts has become a passion as well. I've been combining elements of Punto Antico and Reticello to my Hardanger.  It is a true fusion of techniques. I do not teach proper Reticello, or Punto Antico. I do not claim to. Rather I teach the stitches as they would be done by someone with a strong Hardanger and Ukrainian Whitework background.  It's been fun to do. The first two of these new fusion designs will be taught at the EGA Seminar in Dallas, Texas in November of 2025.  I named the first one Coloring Outside the Lines for two reasons. First, I am going beyond the realm of Hardanger and including very non-traditional elements. Second, some of the stitching does indeed go beyond the Kloster outline. It is truly Outside the Lines! The second on is Scribbles because I took a small portion of Coloring Outside the Lines and made it into a one day class.

I am also teaching the lovely Genevieve which is a very traditional Hardanger design. The best of both worlds, traditional and modern!

Now that EGA and ANG have both announced their national seminar classes for 2024, I can show you photos of them.
For EGA in Atlanta I have teaching two two-day classes. Calypso a Ukrainian Whitework and blackwork square, and Whiteout an advanced Hardanger doily. I also have a one day class, Emily a beginner Hardanger ornament.
For ANG in Kansas City, I have two one day classes. Sage, a beginner whitework piece that can be done either in white or green and blue, and Building Blocks 4 an intermediate/advanced Ukrainian Whitework Square.
The photos of all of my pretties are below. So many new things to do!

New Thread Listings

There are so many new threads listed in the shop! My wonderful daughter-in-law spent quite a bit of time doing inventory and taking photos of the threads. She did a great job.
I've been spending a lot of time writing charts for new classes. It's a ton of work, but the results are worth it. Between the writing and working on some new designs I've been busy. I'm starting to add a colorway to my whitework designs. So many of us have trouble seeing white on white as we become of "a certain age". Color helps.

Bits and bobs

The title says it all. I have a few bits of news and am doing some long overdue updating on the site. I've taken out all of the Cottage Gardens Threads that are out of stock. Those pages look much better. I'll be adding some of the fabulous new colors to the pages, too. This will mostly occur after we have returned from our long awaited and COVID delayed cruise. My husband and I are celebrating 35 years of marriage by cruising around quite a bit of South America. The shop will be down while I am gone with the exception of PDF downloads. I have enabled automatic downloads so those will continue on their own. Any paper charts or threads ordered between March 6th and April 11th will be processed after April 12th.

I am gearing up for several seminars, including teaching for the first time at Canada's national seminar. I'm also teaching for the EGA and ANG seminars here in the US.

Life is going well here. Spring has sprung and I have a lot of flowers blooming outside. I love having warmer weather again. I'm personally working on new designs, as always, and enjoying my gardens.

Some of the new designs are pictured below. These are being taught later this year at the seminars listed above.

Just a quick note to let you all know that I have started posting stitch guide videos to my YouTube channel. There are ten or so right now, but I am adding more weekly. There are some general stitches, some Hardanger stitches, and some Ukrainian Whitework stitches. Send me a note if you have a stitch you would like to see on the channel.

I have some lovely things to show you today as well as the fun event at which they will be taught.

The first is my Lotus Drop. This is a mini Lotus Box turned upside down and shaped into an ornament.
Picture
I will be teaching this one on the fabulous Hawaii Cruise, and at Christmas in Williams burg! Links for both events and for the YouTube videos I recorded to show the designs are on mt teaching information page. Just keep scrolling down to the bottom and you will find them.

The other piece for Christmas in Williamsburg is the Earth Spiral.
Picture
The spiral is a one inch by twelve inch strip of stitching based on Ukrainian Whitework, then twisted into a spiral and help in that shape by Ukrainian insertion stitches.

The other two for the cruise are Anne, a Ukrainian Whitework ornament, and the Hawaii Snowflake which was designed especially for this cruise. If you register for the cruise, be sure to tell them that Terri sent you.

I am thrilled to be teaching at both of these events and even happier to know that classes are being held in person again.  Both the Rocky Mountain Region Seminar in Denver and the Greater Pacific Region seminar in Ashland, Oregon have given up the green light!

I hope to see you at one of these events this year.

Below are the Hawaii Snowflake (green and blues) and Anne (white).

New Designs

The price increase has gone into effect, but to soften the blow a bit. I've added three new designs to the site. It's been quite a while since I have added new designs. These three are all former class designs that have been retired from the teaching rota and are now being offered for retail sale. All three are Ukrainian Whitework. I have two more retired class pieces that will be coming out for retail sale as soon as I've tweaked the charts a bit. One of those is a hardanger design.

The Diamonds and Lace Tray, Nordic Band, and Mini Grace are all up on the wed site today.

Here are some upcoming events for you to look at and enjoy!
The First is big news for me, I've been added to the faculty at Christmas in Williamsburg! I've wanted to attend this event for several years, and now I get to teach there! The contact info is on the teaching page, but here are the class photos:

The next is a class at Needlepoint Junction in Hilton Head, SC. Again, the contact info is on the teaching page, but here is the photo of big, beautiful Harlequin. Act fast on this one. The deadline is Nov. 15!

The final is the wonderful, wonderful Hawaiian Cruise. The classes haven't been released yet. I will post photos of them soon. In the meantime, check out the cruise brochure on the teaching page. It is a lovely schedule.

I will be posting some new retail charts for sale soon. They are former classes that I have retired. They should be up soon.

In less thrilling news, I will be raising prices across the board January 1st. I've not raised them since I started in 2012 and prices for just about everything has gone up in the meantime. If you've been thinking about buying something and hesitating, now may be the time to do it.
